The new Media Arts Center will provide a vibrant and on-going cultural forum in the Fine and Performing Arts department, which will benefit not only the student body of Los Angeles Mission College, but also engage the surrounding communities. The facility is envisioned as a place where students may attain their goals in a welcoming and cohesive environment.
The Media Arts Center (MAC) is slated for the central quadrant of the campus. The MAC consists of a 3-story building with a mezzanine level, totaling 51,600 square feet. The Ground Level includes a multi-purpose theater and lecture hall, a green room, an art gallery, a multi-purpose piano recital and music classroom, a multi media production studio, a digital video editing lab, a sculpture and workshop classroom, and circulation and support spaces. Second level spaces include a film screening room, graphic design and animation labs, an interactive media classroom, a photography studio and full-time faculty offices. The third level offers drawing, painting and interior design studios.
“Arroyo” landscaping acts as a visual and functional extension of fine arts by providing opportunities for display of sculpture and accommodating large outdoor gathering areas – but this feature also serves as a means of treatment, retention and infiltration of the campus storm water runoff.
