PlayPaseo Alisal Master plan
Unlike the vaguely defined boundaries and sprawl that characterize much of urbanized California, Salinas is a relatively compact urban community with a distinct edge defined by surrounding, highly productive agricultural land. Despite the definition, the city has historically struggled to create a common identifiable center for the two primary demographic communities, divided by geography, socio-economic issues and culture. This project seeks to transform an 55-acre swath of land that separates these communities into a vibrant, new city center that embraces and celebrates the culture of all the city’s inhabitants. Taking advantage of adjacent transportation opportunities, this project will be a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented district with retail and much needed community service facilities, complimented by park-focused neighborhoods that will include substantial affordable “for-sale” housing. |
